RC Willey has come in with a $25,000 sponsorship!!!!!

Salt Lake City has upped there commitment amount to $15,000!!!!

Noodles & Company have put us within $5,000 of our goal.

We now have enough and have submitted the paperwork to the city for the permits to do a fireworks show.

“What a roller coaster ride it has been the last few days, I was at a low point 2 weeks ago when we announced the show was canceled and now I am at the top today with the news that the show will go on. It is amazing how RC Willey, Salt Lake City and the community have stepped up to save the show,” said Workman. “There is still a little bit of pressure to raise about $5,000 more, but we are so close to our goal that I am committed to moving forward. “I beleive we will reach our goal within the next week.

This event in years past has typically drawn more than 35,000 people to Sugar House Park, and for many local businesses, is one of their most profitable days of the year. An estimated 1 million people have attended the Sugar House Park Fireworks Show since the show began.

SALT LAKE CITY (June 1, 2010) — A group working to “Save the Sugar House Fireworks” announced today it still needs $14,500 by June 25 to save the entire show. Community supporters have already raised $60,500, which was needed today to apply for the city permit.

“We have already received tremendous support from the businesses and residents in the community who are as passionate as we are about saving this 22-year-old Fourth of July tradition,” said Scott Workman, the event organizer. “We appreciate the amazing efforts that have helped us come this far and hope the community will join together to help us raise the remaining amount needed to save the entire fireworks show.”

Two new businesses have announced promotions that will benefit the effort:

From June 7-19, Ray’s Barber Shop, located at 1328 South 2100 East, will donate one dollar from each haircut.

On June 8, six Utah Jamba Juice locations will donate 15 percent of sales to the effort. Participating locations include Sugar House, Fort Union, Brickyard, Taylorsville, Bountiful and South Jordan.

Eight Noodles & Company locations donated 25 percent of sales on May 18, raising $5,000 for the cause. The Sugar House Whole Foods Market donated 5 percent of sales on May 25, for a total of $3006.

Along with the donations, local vendors are selling “I helped save the Sugar House Fireworks” buttons for $1 each. Buttons are available at Noodles & Company, Whole Foods Market and Jamba Juice, along with other businesses across the valley. Individuals who purchase buttons will receive a discount on purchases at participating locations and receive preferred seating at the fireworks show on Saturday, July 3.

For a complete list of participating locations and/or to help by purchasing a small sponsorship for as little as $5, visit www.sugarhousefireworks.com. To enroll a business as a medium- or large-size sponsor, call Scott Workman at 801-739-7548.

Scott Workman is hoping to get sponsors to save this year’s Fourth of July fireworks display at Sugar House Park — 20,000 of them, in fact.

The holiday show was canceled when the Sugar House Park Authority decided earlier this year to use the bulk of its budget to repair dilapidated restrooms and pavilions, said president Mark Danenhauer. The park is unique in the valley in that it is an independent entity, rather than being owned by a city or Salt Lake County. Most of the park’s budget comes from those two government entities, but with both facing budget woes, funding for fireworks was simply not an option.

COMMUNITY GROUP WORKING TO SAVE THE SUGAR HOUSE PARK FIREWORKS AND RAISE $35,000 BY JUNE 1

SALT LAKE CITY (May 5, 2010) – After more than two decades, the annual Sugar House Park Fireworks no longer has the funding needed to host the show this year. A group headed by Sugar House resident, Scott Workman, is working to raise $75,000 for the Sugar House Park Fireworks, held during the Fourth of July holiday, through the sponsorships of local organizations and residents. So far, $40,000 has been committed and $35,000 is still needed by June 1 to meet the city permit deadline.

This event draws as many as 35,000 people to Sugar House Park, and for many local businesses, is the busiest day of the year. Many are talking about what would happen to the Sugar House economy if it didn’t take place in 2010.

“Our family has watched the show for the last 22 years and it’s a tradition we want to continue for generations to come,” said Workman, the volunteer events coordinator. “The entire Sugar House community and people throughout the area come every year to Sugar House Park to watch one of the largest, free fireworks show in the state. This is a great opportunity for the community to pitch in to help save this local Fourth of July tradition.”

Whole Foods Market and Noodles & Company are supporting this community cause by hosting promotional days. On May 18, Noodles & Company’s eight Salt Lake City-area restaurants, including its Sugar House location, will provide 25 percent of sales to the fireworks. On May 25, Whole Foods Market in Sugar House will provide 5 percent of sales to the fireworks.

“It has been great working with these two national companies who are taking the lead in helping our local event and asking for nothing in return,” said Workman. “I am also pleased with the response of the Sugar House community that has quickly jumped on board to save the fireworks.”

Sponsorship money has been secured with the Salt Lake City Corp. committing $15,000 and Yes! Utah committing $5,000. Many Sugar House residents have also already helped by purchasing small sponsorships for as little as $5.

Beginning May 17, “I helped save the Sugar House Fireworks” buttons will be sold for $1 at Noodles & Company, Whole Foods Market as well as other businesses to help raise funds for the firework show. Individuals who purchase buttons will receive a discount on purchases at participating locations and receive preferred seating at the firework show on Saturday, July 3.

For a complete list of participating locations and/or to help by purchasing a small sponsorship, visit www.sugarhousefireworks.com. For businesses who want to become medium- to large-size sponsors, call Scott Workman at 801-739-7548.
